Chelsea is currently going through a bit of a rough patch. The Premier League side continues to struggle and is trying to get out of a tight spot. While the domestic run has cast the club and its players into negative limelight, the Blues’ icon John Obi Mikel has spared Conor Gallagher, insisting the youngster is ‘giving his 110%.’ Joining the chorus of admiration is another Chelsea legend, Joe Cole, who claims that Gallagher shouldn’t be sold as he will become ‘a massive player for Chelsea.’
The lauding came during the latest installment of The Obi One Podcast, where host Chris McHardy and John Obi Mikel invited former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole for a tête-à-tête. While discussing some interesting topics, Cole started talking about how he often visits Chelsea to interview players and revealed how he was impressed by Conor Gallagher.
Interestingly, Mikel quickly interjected Cole and started praising the 23-year-old midfielder, insisting the youngster gives his all on the pitch, be it running or tacking. “He is giving his 110%. Conor Gallagher is the one player that I would single out and say, ‘This guy is fighting for the badge.’ Apart from Conor, there’s nobody else,” said the former Nigerian international.

Cole also echoed Mikel’s thoughts after McHardy questioned the former England international about whether Gallagher is at the standard that Chelsea needs. Having worked as Chelsea’s technical coach for a year, Cole insisted on seeing a lot of improvement in the former Crystal Palace star and claims the midfielder justifies his ability as a ‘talented player.’ Keeping up with the praise, Cole even pressed on talking to the Blues’ owners if they wished to sell Gallagher.

Joe Cole urges Chelsea to keep Conor Gallagher
Joe Cole further hailed Gallagher, claiming he will ‘keep getting better’ just like Jordan Henderson did at Liverpool. He added, “I think it will be a travesty if Chelsea let him go.” While discussing the rumors of him going to Tottenham, he said, “Please don’t! If I could speak to the owners now, just don’t do that.” The former midfielder further claimed that if he had to choose a team to win, then Gallagher would have played every week.

“If someone’s listening from the club, please, please, keep Gallagher. Forgot how much money he’s worth on the spreadsheet. Find the money somewhere else. The kid is gonna get better and better and I think he will be a massive player for Chelsea,” Cole concluded. Indeed, this is quite a huge acclamation for Gallagher, which certainly must have boosted the player’s confidence to deliver more brilliance on the pitch. Let’s hope he continues to impress the critics.
