The MLS opener is just mere minutes away. Soccer fans around the world are eagerly waiting for Lionel Messi‘s return to the soccer pitch. However, like various sporting events in the country, the match will be preceded by the national anthem. And this time, MLS has interestingly opted to go for one for one of the leading artists in the Salsa genre.
Per the club’s official website, Puerto Rican sensation & Sony Music recording artist Luis Figueroa, who is known for hits like ‘Te Deseo‘ and ‘La Especialista‘ will be performing at the Chase Stadium. Figueroa, who has received 4 Grammy nominations in his career, has proved himself both as a singer and songwriter. On the other hand, this isn’t the first time Lionel Messi is set to see a major artist’s rendition of the national anthem.
Back in July 2023, during his MLS debut, Lionel Messi was treated to an unforgettable national anthem performance. At that time, it was Becky G, known for superhits like ‘Shower‘ and ‘MAMIII‘, who dazzled the crowd. Considering Messi’s presence, expectations will be high for Figueroa, who will be aiming to exceed it.

While excitement is plenty ahead of the opener, there were lots of concerns. The MLS referees had turned down a contract proposal, which meant replacement referees with minimal experience would be in charge. Moreover, Inter Miami also faced fitness issues regarding Lionel Messi, who had an injury in pre-season. However, the fans can watch Lionel Messi, who is back to full fitness.

Following his injury against Al Hilal, Lionel Messi faced a disruptive pre-season. He either started the remaining games from the bench or did not complete 90 minutes. However, all the worries regarding his fitness have been dispelled by Tata Martino. In his previous conference, Martino said, “I see him fully recovered. It is true that we are playing him little by little. Tonight he played almost 60 minutes and the idea is that he arrives well prepared for the [league] debut on the 21st.” And now that the lineups have been released, the Argentine maestro is set to start the game.
Sergio Busquets also faced an injury scare recently because of a vicious tackle. But the injury wasn’t that serious and he too is in the starting XI. As it stands, the Herons’ unavailable stars are players facing long-injury layouts. These include the likes of Facundo Farias, Benjamin Cremaschi, Franco Negri, and Nicolas Freire.
