Wrexham AFC faced a dire financial situation in the past
After their enthralling title-winning season, Wrexham AFC is ready to start its journey in the EFL League Two next month. Furthermore, former Wrexham CEO Don Bircham spoke highly of club owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. He further suggested that the club has come a long way.
Don Bircham’s travel agency will fly Wrexham fans to the club’s pre-season tour in the USA this month. After talking about Ryan and Rob’s success in rising Wrexham’s lost glory, the former CEO also revealed the Welsh club’s dire financial situation in the past. He mentions that during his time with the club, he was invited for a Belfast tour with the squad.
Don further discussed how the heartwarming invite from Wrexham’s ex-manager, Denis Smith, turned against the former CEO. He said, “He invited me along and I thought, ‘Why not?’ This was long before I joined the board or anything like that, though I was a sponsor at the time.”

“But then when we were checking out of the hotel, Denis, who is a lovely guy, comes up to me and says, Have you got your credit card on you, Don? You wouldn’t mind settling this, would you? It’s just the club has no money at the moment. I realised then why I’d been invited!”, former Wrexham CEO added.
From Don Bircham’s statement, fans can expect the dire financial situation of Wrexham. Therefore, it’s more impressive how the Hollywood stars successfully managed the Welsh club. Besides getting promoted to League Two, ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary has also been nominated for the Prestigious Hollywood Award.
