Cristiano Ronaldo is in love with the Saudi Pro League, unlike his ex-teammate Karim Benzema, who will likely end his Saudi stint like Jordan Henderson. In less than 24 hours of Henderson’s exit, CR7 boldly proclaimed the Roshn Saudi League is more competitive than France’s Ligue 1. Al Nassr is eternally indebted to have the 5x-Ballon d’Or winner. Like the skipper, ex-Barcelona star turned Al Nassr’s sporting director Goran Vucevic also believes the RSL is gaining more importance. Vucevic thanked Ronaldo for ‘opening the door‘ to overseas talents.
Saudi’s League was out of the limelight until Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in January 2023. His transfer moved and shook the market, then signing 7 UEFA Champions League winners.

Al Nassr is yet to land an overseas superstar in the ongoing transfer window. But top players such as Casemiro and Kevin De Bruyne have been linked to the Riyadh-based club. Anyhow, if it were not for Cristiano Ronaldo, Al Nassr would not have become such an attractive destination for Europeans. “Cristiano Ronaldo is the father of the Saudi League because he opened the door for other players until the league became very important in the whole world,” said Goran Vucevic, who ironically represented CR7’s rivals Barcelona as a player and a scout.

Moreover, unlike Jordan Henderson, Benzema, and Firmino, whose moves to Saudi have gone awry, no Al Nassr player has so far expressed a desire to leave the club. All of them seem to be on cloud nine at Riyadh, much like the Cristiano Ronaldo. The 38-year-old is truly determined to take this project to the next level. Just some time ago, he came up with more confident claims about the Middle-Eastern League.

Cristiano Ronaldo has not only claimed that the RSL surpassed Ligue 1, in terms of quality. He also said the Saudi project will soon be one of the Top 3 soccer leagues globally. Earlier, he said it would be amongst the Top 5. Now he thinks it is already in that elite category. Quality aside, CR7 reminded the Globe Soccer Award audience that he overtook the likes of Erling Haaland at age 38 to become last year’s top goal-scorer.
CR7’s goal-scoring streak is proof that the Saudi move has not withered his quality. Al Nassr is currently 2nd, competing for the top spot with Al Hilal. Hence, Cristiano Ronaldo is in the perfect position to take pride in his current stint. But that is not the case for everyone who made the switch.
