The English soccer club Leeds United will be another club under complete American ownership. 49ers will buy 100% stakes of the club after bringing minority stakes in 2018. And now, American professional golfers show their interest in being a part of Leeds United ownership.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out for the golfers, including Rickie Fowler, after making their desire known to the 49ers. But why does Fowler want to be a part of the deal?

Fowler admires soccer as a massive sport and feels it is growing in the US. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said, “I feel like, obviously, you call it football over there, we call it soccer here… it’s a massive sport. I feel like its continuing to get bigger in States, but still since I haven’t been to a game, I don’t have the true appreciation until I’ve actually been able to go and be there and feel that energy.”

It seems the golfer wants to enter a new avenue and sees Leeds United as a great opportunity. Also, the growth of the sports in recent years has impressed Fowler. However, he isn’t part of the takeover process technically. He has confirmed fellow golfers Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth are also interested in being a part of the deal.

Spieth did a Leeds United salute recently with Billy Foster. Foster is one of the most experienced caddies in golf and a die-hard Leeds United fan. The idea of going to a Premier League and Champions League game excites Fowler. However, even if he is not able to become a part of the ownership by investing, Fowler will keep rooting for Leeds United.

“It’s cool to have those opportunities. I know we are looking into it. It will be fun if we get to be a part of it. If not, we will continue to root for Leeds to see if we can help out Billy,” Fowler added when a reporter asked about Billy Foster trying to get them involved with the English club.

The reports are suggesting that the 49ers, who own the San Francisco 49ers (valued at $5.2 billion), will buy the stakes of Andrea Radrizzani for $400 million. Radrizzani, an Italian businessman, brought the club in 2017 through Aser. After recent acquisitions like AFC Bournemouth and Chelsea FC, another English club adds to the list of American ownership.
