Ryan Reynolds and the co-owner of Wrexham Rob McElhenney produced the documentary. The documentary titled ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ came out earlier this year and had many noteworthy moments.

The do-or-die match

An opportunity presented the Wrexham FC in May 2021, where they could have been promoted to the fourth tier in the English soccer league but, winning the league championship was a necessity. They needed to win at all costs against Dagenham & Redbridge FC. In the 51st minute, it caught them with the horror when McCallum scored for Deg & Red.

Now they had to score two goals to win. In the 56th minute, paul Rutherford from Wrexham made an aggressive tackle, and the referee straight away showed him the red card. Ponticelli scored in the game’s last minutes, but a 1-1 final score meant Wrexham was out of the playoffs.

Talking about the match and how Wrexham released Paul Rutherford the very next day, Ryan Reynolds cleared why the decision was taken. In the very last episode of Welcome to Wrexham, he said, “Our goal is to get the f**k out of this league. Like that’s it. If you don’t get promoted, that’s our fault.
