Shakira and Gerard Pique had a messy split. The former power couple has been in the middle of a muddy controversy ever since June last year. The situation came to its peak in January when Shakira released her infamous diss track, “Bzrp Music Session #53” targeting the soccer veteran. Just weeks later on February 24, Shakira released yet another diss track. This time she collaborated with fellow Latin singer Karol G in a song titled “TQG”.

The entire saga has been followed closely by fans around the globe. However, amidst the scrutiny that Pique has been receiving from fans of the Colombin singer, an ex-Premier league star has stepped forward to show support.

Before his appearance on his ESPN program, Asprilla had an interaction with his colleagues wherein they talked about the whole Shakira and Pique saga. His colleagues tried to stop him from terming the situation between them but Asprilla cut them short saying he knows what it feels like to get married.

He further elaborated on his own marriage saying, “I got married and had a son named Santiago. You did not see that they took all the money from me”. To wrap it off, he proclaimed, “[Gerard] Piqué is my idol”. This evoked a lot of reactions from his colleagues who were displeased by this statement.

Asprilla’s stand on the issue provided some reprieve as to where he stands on the drama. While Pique appears to be receiving some words of support, Shakira appears to be getting ready for her upcoming major achievement.

Shakira set to make history

Since the release of her diss track, Shakira has been on a roll. The Pop singer is simply setting records while creating history. In recognition of her ground-breaking role in music, Shakira has been named by Billboard as the first-ever ‘Latin Woman of the Year’.
