It was quite a contentious season for Manchester United. An 8th place finish and the surprising feat of stealing the FA Cup from Manchester City—the season was filled with peaks and valleys. But more than the team, it was Erik ten Hag who remained at the center of criticism. While the Red Devils are yet to decide on his future, former player Gerard Pique has come out in support of the Dutchman, insisting that United’s board quickly ‘make the decision.’

The former Barcelona center-back is busy expanding his soccer venture, ‘Kings World Cup’ but got time to sit down for a brief chat with talkSPORT. Interestingly, when asked about ten Hag and his former club’s situation, he said, “Well, it’s tough to say really because it’s true that they won the cup at the same time it’s also true that they are not fighting for the Premier League which I think at some point, has to be one of the objectives of Manchester United.”

While urging the INEOS and Co. to reignite their fighting spirit for the PL title, Pique wants the United board to sort things out as soon as possible. “I don’t know, I think that the board of United really needs to understand what they want for the club in the next few years and really if they believe in ten Hag or not, they need to make the decision,” concluded the 2010 World Cup winner.

Per the final standings, United failed to secure Europa League qualification, but the FA Cup did the job. Yet, it’s quite surprising to see the club being uncertain about their manager. Notably, Pique isn’t the only one urging United to sort out ten Hag’s situation, as the former Ajax man is himself desperate to know his future.

Erik ten Hag wants Manchester United’s future sorted with a new offer already in hand

As per the reports from TeamTalk, Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, are willing to offer Ten Hag a job despite Edin Terzić leading BVB to an unexpected Champions League final. Although Bayern Munich were also linked to the 54-year-old, they are now close to appointing Vincent Kompany as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement. Ten Hag has previously worked with Bavarians under Pep Guardiola.

A return to Ajax was also mentioned earlier. However, Ten Hag’s future hinges entirely on Manchester United’s decision. The manager is eager for a swift resolution so that he can either start preparations at Carrington for the new season or move on to new opportunities. Certainly, time is of the essence for United as they need to resolve this matter promptly to sufficiently prepare for the upcoming season.
