The USMNT is one of the brightest prospects in soccer. Not many fans knew what to expect from the USMNT in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, it’s safe to say that Gregg Berhalter and his squad had a decent World Cup campaign. Tyler Adams and his young squad could have undoubtedly done much better, but the USMNT’s campaign came to a premature end after the Netherlands beat them in the Round of 16. The fans were quite upset over certain players being excluded from the starting XI.

However, every American soccer player has seemingly moved on from the sad exit of the World Cup. In a recent interview, Sean Johnson explained his excitement for the 2026 World Cup.
Sean Johnson is looking forward to the 2026 World Cup!
Sean Johnson made his latest appearance for the USMNT recently against Colombia. The match ended in a 0-0 draw. Fans were extremely proud of Johnson’s clean sheet. In the post-match conference, Johnson spoke about a large number of new faces in the American soccer squad.

Johnson also spoke about how special the January camp turns out for many players. Head coaches tend to test and give other players a chance to prove themselves in the off-season. According to AS, Johnson told the media, “This is a cycle where it’s just starting out and everything’s geared towards [the] 2026 [World Cup, which is to be held in the US, Canada, and Mexico]”.
After making his 10 appearance for the USMNT, he said, “It’s always an honor to represent your country – to get a game in the January camp is special for a lot of these guys, and it’s always special for me”. Johnson concluded by saying, “There’s a great group of players and that speaks to the depth of our player pool. There are exciting times ahead”.
The USMNT has a long list of tournaments to participate in ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, Anthony Hudson needs to find his strongest starting XI before the CONCACAF Nations League in March.
The USMNT currently has too many issues!
The USMNT was plagued with too many problems during the World Cup. Former head coach Gregg Berhalter was at the epicenter of too many controversies related to US Soccer. It first started with Berhalter reducing Giovanni Reyna’s role in the squad. The controversy then continued with the ‘Berhalter – Reyna’ saga. However, Berhalter’s contract also expired on 31 December 2022. It’s unlikely that he will take charge of the USMNT again.

The USMNT then hired Anthony Hudson on an interim basis. The fans slammed Hudson on social media even before his first game in charge. US Soccer currently needs to find an experienced head coach to take charge of the national team. Without a doubt, the American soccer team is full of talent. Unfortunately, there’s no one to nurture it. The USMNT has a very good chance to possibly win the 2026 World Cup as the tournament will be held in America, Canada, and Mexico.
