Chelsea has suddenly experienced a decline on the pitch in the last year. The team has made a lot of changes to the squad since the arrival of the new ownership. However, the Blues’ recent transfers to Saudi Arabia were questioned by tons of people, including pundit Gary Neville. The Manchester United icon demands an investigation, as he feels something is fishy.

Results started to go downhill for Chelsea after Thomas Tuchel was fired. Although the team won the UEFA Champions League not so long ago, a sudden streak of losses has already set the flow for the entire season. In the last transfer window, the fanbase saw its club’s players move to the money-rich Saudi league, which was quite confusing considering the back-to-back exits.

The soccer fanbase was shocked after Everton lost 10 points for defaulting on the Financial Fair Play rules. This led to even the other teams, mainly Manchester City and Chelsea, coming into the spotlight. The club was warned about their spending, which may also be under the scanner. Here’s what Gary Neville had to say about the Blues’ Saudi-focused business deals.

He said, “I am calling for an investigation into the transfers Chelsea concluded with Saudi Arabia at the start of the season. I just have the feeling that something bad happened in these transfers.”

Chelsea was recently scanned for older transactions, which also fueled more suspicious news dating back to the reign of Roman Abramovich. The Russian owner was accused of conducting secret transactions that could potentially violate FFP laws.

If found guilty, Chelsea could also face a similar situation to the Toffees. Even though Todd Boehly may claim not to be involved, the club has spent nearly $1 billion on transfers in the last few windows. Was this a financial strategy or the clearance of deadwood?

What transfers is Neville talking about?

Chelsea was involved in sending three of their players to the Saudi Pro League. Star defender Kalidou Koulibaly and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy joined Al Hilal and Al Ahli, respectively, for around $21 million each. Whereas, World Cup winner and French veteran Ngolo Kante was poached on a free transfer by Al Ittihad in spite of heavy interest from Al Nassr.
