Manchester City’s Premier League form was wobbling in November last year. The defending champions were fourth-seeded for a long time, with a remarkable gap between them and the toppers Liverpool. However, the Cityzens have now upped their ante by securing the second spot after a win against Newcastle United. Tables could turn in Pep Guardiola‘s favor for a fourth consecutive time. Nevertheless, star midfielder Rodri asserts another title chase is no walk in the park, as the top-seeded Liverpool is a threat, thanks to their ‘experience of winning‘.
Guardiola and Co. won five Premier League titles in the last six editions. It was only Liverpool that stood in their way to win all six. Therefore, there are indeed chances that Jurgen Klopp‘s army could once again disrupt Pep Guardiola’s reign.

In a conversation on Manchester City’s official YouTube channel, Rodri gave his two cents on the title race. After detailing how his club should focus on themselves to prepare for the title chase, he listed out the top candidates to take the prize home. “If you ask me, our real contenders are Liverpool because they have the experience of winning in the last years. Arsenal showed the level last year they can do and this year they have the experience they didn’t have last time,” Rodri said. It was Manchester City who put an end to the Arsenal dream.
The Gunners claimed the tainted record of topping the table for the longest tenure, but not winning the title. This season, Arsenal has now fallen to the fourth place. Therefore, it is not surprising to see the City anchor choose Liverpool as the best contender. However, he concluded by saying he hopes the title will again come to the Etihad. To make that happen, Rodri should make sure he misses no game, because he has not lost once in the last 50 games!

Manchester City has tasted loss, but its defensive anchor hasn’t!
Pep Guardiola’s men have lost 3 league matches in the ongoing campaign. Interestingly, Rodri has missed all of them owing to suspensions or injury concerns. The Spaniard being absent only during the losses means City has either won or drawn on all other occasions when he had started. The 27-year-old’s last loss with Manchester City came against Tottenham in February 2023!

On the other hand, Pep Guardiola’s side has won a UCL match against BSC Young Boys, and the FA Cup opener against Huddersfield Town without Rodri. Those were the only two times the defensive midfielder’s absence has not cost the Cityzens. If Rodri has any plans to outdo Manchester City’s ‘real contenders’, he must make sure he is healthy, and fit without picking up any further suspensions.
