What makes a soccer club great? The players, the history, and the accolades won by it. But there’s another component that takes any team to new heights, fans. The fans are an integral part of any club, whether a top or a low division. And Wrexham AFC is no exception to it.

The world’s third-oldest club has seen many highs and lows. It is a sentiment for the people of Wrexham, which boasts a population of over 61,000. Meanwhile, everything changed for the club once in anonymity after Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over. People worldwide are recognizing the Welsh club. And now, a lifelong club fan is making efforts to let the world know the story of the Red Dragons.

Avid Wrexham fan pens down the club’s highs and lows

Peter Read is a well-known author and a lifelong Wrexham fan. He is as a full-time writer since 2005 and has collaborated with many soccer personalities on their autobiographies. He worked with the likes of Gary Monk, Dixie McNeil, and Roberto Martinez.  Recently, Read released his book From Hollywood to Wrexham highlighting the club’s incredible journey.

We currently know the club for its Hollywood story after Reynolds and McElhenney’s takeover. The club impressed many last season with scintillating performances in the FA Cup and their fairytale promotion. Wrexham AFC is back in Football League after 15 years and is the talk of the town. But it hasn’t been the case if we go a few years back.

In 2011 the club was on the verge of extinction for a financial mess. The Wrexham people donated thousands of dollars to keep the club running. It’s a testament to how fans love the club. However, Ryan Reynolds’ club also had glory days last century. The fans saw the FA Cup victory over Arsenal, its presence in the second division, and some great wins over top European clubs in the European Cups.

And that’s what Peter Read has highlighted in his new book. It will be a significant guide for the new generation fans, especially those who started following the club after Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over. 

Peter Read’s first game was forgettable, but that didn’t stop him from being a fan!

Peter tells a gripping story of how he fell in love with soccer and the Red Dragons. Meanwhile, the first-ever game he saw live on the Racecourse was a 2-1 loss to Exeter City. It was definitely a forgettable moment for Peter. However, he also involved other fans of his age in penning down the book.

He collected the stories from six other fans while compiling the book. It will give more context to the tale of the club. It will be interesting to see how fans respond to From Hollywood To Wrexham, which will launch on Friday, June 30.
