The NWSL season starts on March 16. This time, the league is better than ever. Following the $240 million deal with broadcasters, the NSWL is expected to have a much larger audience. Also, the move is expected to infuse cash into the division as well, which means better players and better games. However, not everyone is happy ahead of the upcoming NWSL season.
Injuries always play spoilsport in any sport, let alone soccer. The upcoming NWSL will be without some key players, who are yet to return to fitness.
4 NWSL players whose seasons have already seen a cruel ending

1 Jun Endo
In February, Angel City FC confirmed the devastating news. Their Japanese forward June Endo suffered an ACL injury while the club was having its preseason camp in Melbourne. Coach Becki tweeted, “Having her season end before it could truly begin is devastating” while wishing her recovery. However, the club hasn’t revealed the exact reason that led to the injury. Regardless, the attacker will be a big miss as Angel City looks to improve on their fifth-place finish from the previous year.
2 Megan Montefusco
February also saw Orlando City lose their defender Megan Montefusco for the season. However, this wasn’t due to a direct injury. Montefusco having issues with her right foot and hence, decided to get surgery on the same. In the off-season, she had surgery from Orlando Health, the club’s official medical team. The recovery process is such that, she will not be available for the NWSL season.
3 Simone Charley
Simeone Charley is the latest name on this list. On March 10, Orlando Pride announced that the player ruptured her ACL in the right leg in training. She is expected to have surgery next week. Notably, this is the second instance of Charley suffering such an injury after an ACL injury on her left foot ruled her out of the 2023 season. Tough luck.
4 Kerolin Nicoli

North Carolina Courage star Kerolin Nicoli ruptured her ACL in the tail end of October 2023. The injury was sustained in the regular season finale against Washington Spirit. Considering that ACL injuries typically take between 9-12 months to recover, it is unlikely that she will return before November 2024, the final month in the NSWL calendar. Notably, Kerolin was the league’s MVP in 2023.
