Pep Guardiola usually lets his trophies do the talking. However, he is more than capable of responding to critics, as evidenced by his recent rant at Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards. The Spanish tactician didn’t seem to appreciate the duo’s comments regarding complacency at Manchester City. Hence, he fired back an unexpected response, targeting the respective playing careers of the pundits.
However, this is not the first time a soccer pundit has felt Pep Guardiola’s wrath. Therefore, in this article, we will be looking at the incidents where the Spanish tactician lashed out at the pundits.

Jamie Carragher along with Gary Neville and Micah Richards hinted complacency in the Manchester City squad after 3 consecutive Premier League draws. Pep Guardiola responded by saying that the Liverpool icon hasn’t won a single Premier League title in his career. Quite a damning statement from Pep. However, Carragher did offer a seemingly out-of-the-box reply via social media. “I think I’d have probably won one if Liverpool were owned by a nation state, and pushed the rules so far that the PL charged us 115 times!”, quoted Carragher.

I was actually praising Pep’s team after the game on Sunday 🤷♂️😂 https://t.co/EIW3B1AJve

An interesting statement from the former Liverpool defender. Perhaps is he implicitly saying that Manchester City’s spending power is the reason for its success.
2. Alan Shearer’s gutsy comparison Harry Kane comparison
Following Erling Haaland’s prolific start to life on the blue side of Manchester, Alan Shearer did not seem impressed. He commented that Harry Kane would score as many goals as the Norwegian with a team like Pep Guardiola’s. However, the master tactician didn’t seem to find that comment very amusing.
The Spaniard added that he can’t predict what Harry Kane would have done at Manchester City. Was that a sign of Pep Guardiola’s disappointment after the failed transfer move for the Englishman?
3. Patrice Evra’s ‘personality’ comment
Following Manchester City’s elimination by Real Madrid in the 2021/2022 CL, Patrice Evra made some interesting comments on Manchester City’s brain. The Frenchman said that Pep Guardiola doesn’t want leaders as he can’t train players with personality.
The Spanish veteran responded by saying that the Manchester United icon did not display any personality in the losses against Pep’s Barcelona team that battered the Red Devils.
4. Gary Neville’s take on Pep Guardiola’s style of play
In Pep Guardiola’s first year in England, the older Neville brother talked about the defensive weakness of his possession game. Pep responded by saying that Gary Neville only played in England and doesn’t know of soccer in other countries. This saga surprisingly reopened after a few years.
5. Mocking Gary Neville’s managerial spell

In 2018, Pep Guardiola used less than the allotted number of subs for the trip to Burnley. Gary Neville claimed the decision was a joke and wanted an academy player to be given a chance. The tactician did not agree with the ‘joke’ comment and added that he expected the Manchester United man to know of the job, given his short stint as a manager.
6. 2019 – The captain’s departure
In 2019, Pep Guardiola chose not to replace the departing Vincent Kompany. Following Aymeric Laporte’s injury early in the season, all the pundits criticized the manager for not signing a defender. He did not pay heed to their words and added that he would find a solution to the problem.
