France had a good run in this world cup. But since the tournament is over, the biggest news came from a former member of the team. Notably, the 2018 FIFA World Cup was particularly good for France. They won the tournament and almost pulled it off in 2022 as well. But there is more bad news for the French Soccer Team, as a couple of days ago, a French midfielder hung up his shoes.

For those unversed, Blaise Matuidi, who also played for Juventus, ended his soccer career. He posted a heartfelt message on Twitter along with a photo holding a World Cup trophy. Notably, the 35-year-old midfielder had a 17-year-long professional soccer career and played for clubs like Juventus, and PSG, and towards the end, he played for MLS club Inter Miami.

Blaise Matuidi announces his retirement from the game

The 35-year-old midfielder took to Twitter to announce his retirement from the sport. Along with a picture of himself with the FIFA trophy and a 30-minute interview, he wrote, “Dear Football, I loved you so much. Football, you gave me so much, but the time has come to say enough. I accomplished my childhood dreams and the dreams I had as a grown man. It is with a lump in my throat, but with pride, that I turn over this new leaf today. Thank you!”

The French Midfielder hadn’t played any professional soccer since last year. The 17-year-old career with more than 600+ appearances came to a sudden end. Fans gave him a warm goodbye and wished him luck for his future and a new life ahead. Here are a few fan reactions to his tweet:
