During his both spells at Chelsea, Jose Mourinho has mostly spoken about the good memories with the players. Similarly, the players also enjoyed a similar experience under the Portuguese coach. But, no one enjoyed working with the Special One more than Frank Lampard. In a recent podcast, club legend John Obi-Mikel pointed out that Lampard got away without following a lot of tactical necessities, wittingly revealing that the Englishman was the ‘favorite son‘. This wasn’t the first time the fanbase got a glimpse of Mourinho’s love for Chelsea.

When Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, and Jon Obi Mikel once posted a photo of having lunch, Jose Mourinho wrote, ‘Daddy is missing‘. That showcased the loving relationship he had with the stars at Chelsea. However, his way of managing Frank Lampard was surprisingly different! On the Obi One Podcast, he spoke about how Frank Lampard got away with some things under The Special One. He said, There are a lot of phases that we were in the game, where Frank didn’t do defending and tracking your man. So all of that Frank got away with it from Jose. So, Jose had to come to me. He had to find somebody to blame. Yeah, but Frank was his favorite son“. John Obi-Mikel also made the point that there were few of them, including him, who would complain.

He scored 71 goals and provided 57 assists. The pair also had won several trophies during their time together at Chelsea during 2 different spells.

Frank Lampard, during the second spell of Jose Mourinho, ended up playing only one season before he left Chelsea. Despite not having the best ending, he does not have anything bad to say about his former manager.
