Everybody thought Lionel Messi would end his career at Barcelona. The one-club man tag vanished after his emotional exit from Camp Nou in 2021. In order to move on from his childhood club, the Argentine went to PSG for a brief two-season spell. Unfortunately, that didn’t go well for him, as he made a bitter exit from Paris. Subsequently, his exit wasn’t taken well by a French legend.
While he may have won a few accolades with the Ligue 1 giants, it was still a poor two years for the World Cup winner. Not only was he criticized for his performances, but he was also treated poorly during his time. In due course, the former France star has backed the 35-year-old’s earlier presence in Paris, while criticizing his own home country.

Messi has already moved on from PSG and is now set to begin a new chapter with Inter Miami. However, his time at PSG has been recalled by former French striker, David Trezeguet, who insists that his country never really understood the Argentine figure.“France never understood the character, in this case Lionel Messi, the hierarchy he gave to a championship less showy than what English, Spanish, Italian and I would even say German soccer can represent,” the former striker began on ESPN and as stated by TNT sports.
“France never appreciated talent,” Trezeguet continued. The former striker reveals that he is unhappy that Messi has not continued at the Parc des Princes. He insists that Messi boosted the county’s prestige and image, and “France has rarely counted on a player of this thickness.” He further revealed that many of his former colleagues were very critical of the French soccer world and not of the veteran.
Trezeguet also dragged Kylian Mbappe’s “timely” opinion along. He stated he was decisive in admitting the loss of the most important face of French soccer. While hailing Messi, the former player insisted it’s the statistics that count, which significantly shows his importance at the club. However, it’s too late now, as Messi has moved on from the club. Perhaps the resentment has grown even more as he unfollowed the club from his social accounts.

This is quite shocking, as it has been just months since he left the Parisians. Perhaps it was all the criticism from the PSG fans that led him to make such a decision. However, he still has a special place for his former club, FC Barcelona. Moreover, it’s unlikely he will take such a step for the Catalans.
