Cristiano Ronaldo and family are enjoying their first Christmas in Saudi Arabia. The Portuguese star has plenty of reasons to be excited as he has rediscovered his form and is the top scorer in the SPL. Moreover, Al Nassr sits 2nd in the league and is poised to push Al-Hilal for the title. However, Al Nassr hasn’t received exactly the Christmas present they hoped for as a key technical member has left the club. Could this derail their momentum?

Although Christmas is not officially celebrated in Saudi Arabia, no games are scheduled on this day. Hence, it provides CR7 with a rare opportunity to rest and refresh ahead of a crucial 2nd half of the campaign for Al Alami. With all the instability off the pitch, they would need their talisman to be at his 100% for success in this campaign.

As per reports, Croatian scout Goran Vucevic left the club on Christmas day. Besides being in charge of scouting work, he was also the technical coordinator of the team. It seems this extra responsibility is what led to his exit from the club. Vucevic only seemed to be interested in scouting. However, Al Nassr CEO Guido Fienga was not on the same page.

This led to a disagreement between the two. In the end, Vucevic refused to accept the demands and left the club. However, before leaving, he did reportedly leave a WhatsApp message, the content of which is unknown.

A former Barcelona player and scout, Vucevic is quite experienced in his work and it will be hard for Al Nassr to replace his services. More importantly, it could also have a bearing on their summer transfer plans.

Croatian midfield maestro Luka Modric has long been linked with a move to the SPL. One of the rumored destinations for the Real Madrid man was Al Nassr. One reason is the presence of his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. Another one, likely being the involvement of Vucevic himself. Being a sporting director, Vucevic would have noticed his countryman’s situation at Real Madrid.

This season, following the arrival of Jude Bellingham, the Croatian has not featured as much as he would have liked. Hence, it was a golden opportunity to lure the former Ballon d’Or winner to Al Nassr. Considering that Modric will be a free agent next campaign, the operation would have been financially viable as well. However, Vucevic’s exit might force the club to steer in a different direction.
