This was elucidated by the club’s executive director Humphrey Ker in a recent interview. The Welsh soccer club has been revitalized by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and the Hollywood owners have turned the fortunes of the club and its fans around. But the particular moment in question came after striker Paul Mullin’s stunning last-gasp goals to give Wrexham the win.

Wrexham’s executive director Humphrey Ker appeared on the ‘This Morning’ podcast where he was discussing everything surrounding the club’s Hollywood owners’ project. This was ahead of the release of season two of Welcome To Wrexham. According to Wrexham’s executive director, Rob and Ryan’s project was bigger than just soccer.

In the interview, he said, “I mean yeah I think that’s something that you know one of the brilliant things when Rob & Ryan started this process one of the things they were more interested in than the football even, was like what happens if you take something in an institution like this that is at the center of like a community’s identity and try and supercharge it? Does that help the community as a whole?”

Then while shedding light on Ryan Reynolds’ epiphany, Ker said, “And as it went on, if people have watched the first season of the documentary, you see the moment, there’s a very specific moment in one of the episodes, where you see Ryan it clicked for him when Paul Mullin scored a very late goal in an FA trophy semi-final. And you just see him go like ‘Oh I get why they all love this thing so much now!’ You know to see that happen, to see that galvanization to be part of that has been so so exciting,” he added.

This was Paul Mullin’s stunning brace in added time that sent Wrexham to the FA Trophy final last year. The game was Wrexham’s FA Trophy semi-final against Stockport County.

Mullin scored two goals within the space of a few minutes deep into added time past the 90-minute mark, to send Wrexham AFC fans into delirium. The Wrexham co-owner who is $300 million rich, referred to it as a ‘top 10 life moment’. Wrexham eventually got promoted to EFL League Two. And now, they will surely look to go a step further and qualify for EFL League One come the end of this season. However, it’s truly been some ride for Wrexham fans, in Wales and all over the world.
