In a blow for Chinese hosts, Al Nassr postponed their matches against Shanghai Shenhua and Shenzhen FC because of Cristiano Ronaldo‘s injury. Both the player and the club apologized for their absence. However, recent reports suggest that some did not take too kindly of this cancellation. Instead, the organizers seemed to have incensed Ronaldo after not considering his injury woes.

As per China Newsweek, some of the organizers’ arrangements made Cristiano Ronaldo angry. “They tried to convince Cristiano to play for the fans in a certain meeting, which made Cristiano Ronaldo completely dissatisfied,” the report read. This comes after the Saudi club guaranteed the hosts that they would return to China for friendly matches. It is not sure if the organizers forced Ronaldo and the Knights of Najd to play the pre-planned friendly against Shanghai Shenhua or to showcase his skills in a presentation before the mammoth Chinese crowd.

Besides demands for the Portuguese star to play, fans in China also created a ruckus at the hotel where the Al Nassr team stayed. A viral clip on the web showed thousands of fans storming into the team hotel, breaching the hotel security. The mob of fans vehemently voiced out their disappointment in Ronaldo’s entourage for canceling at the last moment. This wrath comes from overseas fans after the tickets for the Al Nassr-Shanghai Shenhua match got sold out. Anyhow, the Chinese tour cancellation is not the biggest blow for soccer fans. They are now worried if the injury will keep Ronaldo from meeting his generational rival Lionel Messi on February 01 in Riyadh.

Injured Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential last meeting with Messi hangs in the balance

“I’m really sad because Al-Nassr and myself have come to China to enjoy the tour. We have not canceled the game, we want to push for the game and be back here… Unfortunately, I have some problem, but this is part of football and my life,” Cristiano Ronaldo said in his apology statement to Chinese fans. Both the player and his club are yet to confirm what ‘some problem’ he was exactly facing. Nevertheless, certain reports say the player will take around two weeks to recover from the muscle injury. Which means he could miss the Inter Miami game!

Unlike the Chinese friendlies, Al Nassr’s match against Inter Miami is likely not to be postponed. It is a part of the competitive Riyadh Season Cup in which Saudi’s Al Hilal is also participating. Moreover, Inter Miami is scheduled to play back-to-back matches after leaving Saudi Arabia. However, it is also quite likely that Al Nassr requested to postpone the China tour to help their marquee recover and play against Lionel Messi. But only the crucial next few days will tell if we get to enjoy the awaited Last Dance on February 01.
