Earlier today, the French Women’s National Team squared off against the Aussie women’s team in what was a tense quarterfinal match. Unfortunately, the French women suffered the same fate as Kylian Mbappe & Co did last year – lose in the penalties.
As someone who knows the pain of coming so close and losing it all, Mbappe took to social media to console the women’s team. Interestingly, this is the first time Mbappe has made a public statement after controversially triggering the $43 million loyalty bonus from PSG.

Kylian Mbappe urges the French Women’s NT to be patient
Last year, Kylian Mbappe’s one-man army-esque performance brought France back multiple times in the World Cup final. Despite his heroics, ‘Les Bleus’ ended up losing the final in the penalty shootout. Unfortunately, their female counterparts suffered the same fate today albeit in the quarterfinals.

As someone who understands the pain of losing in such heartbreaking circumstances, Kylian Mbappe took to Instagram to share his empathy with the NT. He reposted a photo of the French Women’s National Team on his story with caption – “Vous pouvez être fieres, votre tour viendra… [You can be proud, your turn will come…]”
While there was misery on one side, there was nothing but jubilation on the other. After all, the Australian women qualified for the semifinals in their own country.

“This is what a World Cup does on home soil,” former Socceroos player John Aloisi said on the Australian broadcast. He believed that the Aussie National team has managed to bring smiles all around the country because there is genuine optimism in the air of them winning the world cup on home turf.
