Manchester City fans have been on cloud nine, with Phil Foden bagging the FWA Player of the Year Award. However, there is a section of fans who have yet to come to terms with the decision. Many fans believe Foden isn’t even the best player at City, which makes the award just for show. While there is no denying the Englishman’s talent, Man City indeed has some bigger names in its ranks. However, it’s important to understand that the midfielder has been the team’s best player in the absence of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Despite that, with Foden picking up the award, former Chelsea star Tony Cascarino has been left stunned by the media snubbing Kevin De Bruyne. Cascarino talked about the Belgian not winning the award during his appearance on TalkSPORT. The ex-Chelsea star stated, “If you said who has been Man City’s best player ever, I’m pretty sure De Bruyne would win. The football writers have never given it to him. Four City players have won it but he hasn’t! I know there are circumstances. Four City players have won it, [Ruben] Dias, who’s been a great center half in my opinion. [Raheem] Sterling, who was brilliant during his time.”

He added, “Obviously, Phil Foden, but Kevin De Bruyne has not won it. And Haaland as well, but he had that outstanding season last year. Kevin Be Bruyne was 5 months out this year, but over the course of 9 seasons, he has been at the club. How could he have not won it once?” While one can understand the ex-Chelsea star’s take, it’s important to note that despite his immense importance to the team, the player has at times been overshadowed by exceptional performances from other teammates. Phil Foden this season has been a rock for Pep Guardiola’s side and deserves all the plaudits.
