Darwin Nunez finally appeared to have made up after being caught offside again for Liverpool this season. This time it was not during the game but at Jurgen Klopp’s guard of honor in his last game as Liverpool manager. After snubbing the ritual to herald the departing manager, the Uruguayan silenced the rumors that doubted his reverence towards Klopp, who placed him in high regard.
It was an emotional moment for many players who grew under the star manager from Germany. But despite not expressing much on the pitch, Nunez proved he still shares a strong bond with the manager. According to a recent report, the striker was seen at Klopp’s farewell party at the Titanic Hotel in the city. Additionally, the player was one of the last people to leave the event and performed a hop with South American teammates Luis Diaz and Alexis Mac Allister in between, suggesting the talks.
It was a grand gesture from Nunez at a party that had the presence of some greats like John Barnes, Sir Kenny Dalglish, and Ian Rush. Earlier, the player was seen not applauding the manager during his walk, when the ceremony happened. Instead, he was observed placing his hands together, while other players were seen clapping with some strong emotions.

Meanwhile, this raised questions about a potential rift between the manager and the player. Nunez had quite a bittersweet season. Despite scoring 18 goals and providing 13 assists this time, the 24-year-old missed a few guilt-edged chances. Subsequently, he did not feature in the starting eleven in Liverpool’s 5 of the last 6 Premier League games, which added fuel to the speculation. Nevertheless, Nunez settled the dust not just with his dance but also through his recent statement.
Nunez expresses contrasting feelings about Jurgen Klopp’s exit
It was an emotional exit for Jurgen Klopp after 9 years of a tremendous journey, winning every trophy with the club. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk were seen in tears apart from many other touching players. But seeming indifferent during the guard, Nunez expressed shock over Klopp’s exit.
According to reports, he said, “We were all a little shocked by Klopp’s departure. No one expected it. It is a shame that he is leaving. I personally would like him to leave in a big way, winning things, and it didn’t happen that way. It’s also a shame for the players. I wish him the best in the world,” about the manager who deemed him equal to his former player.
In 2022, Klopp said the striker reminds him of Robert Lewandowski in his yesteryears. Similarly to Nunez, Lewandowski had problems with finishing but had a calm mind to develop, an identical quality Klopp found in Nunez. Overall, it appears the players still cannot fathom that Klopp will no longer be with them. Understandably, such diverse reactions keep coming up.
