Can Emma Hayes follow in Alex Morgan's footsteps and redefine post-retirement success in women's soccer?

Your role on the soccer pitch may be for a while, but the passion to contribute makes you a legend. Alex Morgan has called her time off from all types of professional soccer. During her prime, she was dearly called ‘Baby Horse’, scoring stunning goals and winning tournaments for her club and country. But now, after Morgan’s retirement, USWNT coach Emma Hayes seems to have a similar attitude to her according to recent news. However, this time it’s about the ideas after their spell on the pitch to impact the sport in a better way.

According to the Telegraph, Hayes is determined to take women’s soccer forward with her entrepreneurship in the future. She reportedly stated, “I want to invest in women’s sports,” hinting at a great long-term plan for the future. She further said, “Would I like to own a football club one day? Yeah, definitely. I want to invest in the women’s game and women’s sport and I see the potential in that,” revealing even bigger ambitions than soccer in the future.

Meanwhile, Morgan also aspires to continue her impact by venturing into women’s sports. The former San Diego Wave star suddenly announced her retirement recently. Revealing her passion for progressing women’s sports Morgan renounced any coaching plans, a field Hayes has mastered over the years. Morgan already runs the Alex Morgan Foundation to help young female athletes get the push they need. In addition, her firm ‘Togethxr’ is a media organization that increases the reach of women aspirants.

Moreover, she went beyond soccer to help arrange funds for an upcoming 3×3 basketball tournament the Unrivalled. On the other hand, Hayes feels that most of the women’s sporting area is untouched and could provide great scope for the deserved. Nevertheless, the USWNT coach pointed out many challenges for women in soccer in general.

Emma Hayes blasts men’s soccer for not evolving enough

The English woman has been one of the most consistent coaches in European soccer in the past decade. Subsequently, she has hit the same reputation with the Olympic gold recently. Nevertheless, despite such accolades, Emma Hayes doesn’t think men’s soccer will allow her to lead a men’s team although she never thought about it. But more importantly, she rues the fact that aspiring and deserving women do not have a similar chance either.

Moreover, she subtly took on the issue of unequal pay again, citing former Liverpool Jurgen Klopp. Hayes joined the USWNT immediately after her long and tiring 12-year spell with Chelsea. She has now revealed that she did not have the leisure to go on a break like the German manager due to the gap in monetary resources. Overall, the 47-year-old by indicating her plans also leaves us with food for thought.
