Germany was all over Scotland in the opening match of the Euros 2024. While fans expected a competitive encounter between the two teams, the hosts steamrolled past their opponents. Bayer Leverkusen, wonderkid Florian Wirtz was the star of the show for his team, with the midfielder dominating the play. Wirtz opened the scoring for his team as the German slotted the ball into the bottom corner thanks to a stunning assist from Joshua Kimmich.

The goal also saw Florian Wirtz become the youngest goal scorer for Germany in the Euros. Before Wirtz, center forward Kai Havertz held the record as he scored his first goal in the Euros at the age of 22y 8d against Portugal in 2020. Meanwhile, Wirtz has overtaken his teammate by over a year with the player making his Euros debut at 21y 42d. Wirtz wasn’t the only player 21-year-old to find the back of the net for Germany.

Riding on the momentum from Florian Wirtz’s goal, Jamal Musiala made things 2-0. The goal also saw Germany become the first country to have two scorers aged 21 or under in the same Euro match. Kavi Havertz soon joined the party as he converted a penalty in the closing minutes of the first half to make it 3-0. Scotland had no chance to make a comeback, with Niklas Fullkrug driving the final nail in the coffin with a screamer in the 68th minute to seal the deal.

Julian Nagelsmann will be quite pleased with his team’s performance. The likes of Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala have lived up to the expectations, and it seems like the future is bright for the German pair in the Euros. Another man who has every right to be pleased will be journalist Fabrizio Romano, with the Italian’s bold claims, proved true with Germany’s dominant performance.

Fabrizio Romano surprisingly ranks Florian Wirtz over Jude Bellingham

Jude Bellingham has to be the hottest youngster in soccer at the moment. The Englishman has impressed everyone with his performances for Real Madrid, with the player winning La Liga and the Champions League in his first season with the club. Fans will be quite eager to see how the player performs for England, with Gareth Southgate’s side favorite to lift the European silverware.

While most people expect Jude Bellingham to be the tournament star, Fabrizio Romano has other thoughts. The Italian journalist ranked the top players who could win the Player of the Tournament award at the Euros. Contrary to the public belief, Romano picked England’s Phil Foden as the favorite for the coveted award. He then ranked Jude Bellingham’s Real Madrid teammate Kylian Mbappe second on the list, before giving the third spot to Florian Wirtz.

This is a massive surprise for Jude Bellingham fans who expect the player to steal the limelight this summer. However, we have seen players crumble under the weight of playing for their nation, and it will be really important to see if Jude Bellingham can deliver for England this summer.
