Over the past few months, the USMNT and their former coach have been the talks of the town. It started when the previous head coach, Gregg Berhalter, shocked the soccer world after his 20-year-old bar incident with his then-girlfriend came to light. Since then, he has been under investigation by US authorities.
While he was under the microscopic eye of the apex authorities, the USMNT was also looking for a new coach. Their hunt primarily began after information about the incident resurfaced. Moreover, his contract with the country also expired, leaving the team to interim coaches. However, it seems the hunt for their new coach is over, as they are considering Berhalter’s return. Following the mayhem caused by Berhalter, the USMNT thought of moving on from the coach. The soccer federation started its hunt for the vacant position when the year started. Currently, the team is being run by interim coach B.J. Callaghan. He recently led the USMNT to the finals of the CONCACAF Nations League after beating Mexico 3-0. Likewise, they will be playing the final against Canada.
The team was linked with the likes of Jose Mourinho, Marcelo Bielsa, and Zinedine Zidane. However, nothing materialized, as they seem to return to their ex. This has left soccer fans angry, as they are slamming the federation for their decision. Netizens have once again taken over Twitter over the USMNT-Berhalter situation.
This Federation is a joke!

This is such a bad appointment (again). He had his chance and it was a good run winning the two trophies but other than that I wasn’t impressed. Our back line and midfield looks good and balanced right now. Without Zimmerman, Acosta, Arriola etc. Berhalter would all have them…

It seems the USMNT fans don’t even want to hear Berhalter’s name. Everyone have now turned up against the federation.
Oh great, the #USMNT is bringing back Gregg Berhalter as manager. Can't wait to see them lose in another major tournament. 🙄

Gregg Berhalter and his controversial incident
The controversy surrounding Berhalter surfaced just before the World Cup. Giovanni Reyna had fallen out of favor with the coach, who questioned his commitment and expressed disappointment in his performance. During the World Cup, Reyna was given a limited playing time of approximately 50 minutes. Reyna’s parents were reportedly upset by the situation and contacted US Soccer, leaking details about Berhalter.

It involved Berhalter allegedly assaulting his then-girlfriend and current wife Rosalind in a bar in 1991. In response, Berhalter and his wife made a public statement addressing the incident, asserting that there was nothing to hide and that he had been forgiven years ago. The revelation of the Reyna family’s involvement in leaking the details came as a surprise. Some soccer fans are puzzled by Reyna’s situation, while Claudio Reyna, Giovanni’s father, denied allegations of threatening Berhalter. The incident has left a negative impact on Reyna’s promising future.
