The soccer world was shocked yesterday. Camp Nou is in big trouble and what used to be a glorious club is having big trouble being a ghost of its past self. The ongoing economic crisis wasn’t enough. The five-time UEFA Champions might face relegation. Ever since Messi had to call it quits for Barcelona, they haven’t seen much success. Although they are doing more than fine in La Liga winning 18 of the 21 matches and losing just 1, fans wonder how long will this no. 1 placement last for the Spanish Club.
Lionel Messi had to leave Camp Nou with tears in his eyes as it rendered the Spanish club unable to afford the huge contract Messi demanded. He agrees to an unbelievable pay cut. But having a debt of 1.44 billion USD took a huge toll on the club’s ability to pay wages. The club looked like the ghost of its former self ever since then.

They had to halt the payments when the economic crisis hit the Spanish club. The reports are of 1.4 million USD paid between 2016 and 2018. Enriquez Negreira stressed in his statement that there was no favoritism for Barcelona on the soccer pitch.
The matter has reached the prosecutor’s office, and an investigation is incoming. If found guilty, this could lead to some serious hot water landings for the Spanish giants, although it appears that Barcelona is ready to fight back.
