In a shocking turn of events, Inter Miami has taken a drastic step. The decision comes regarding their goalkeeper 58 days after his candid remarks over the club’s readiness to welcome Lionel Messi. It’s a disheartening update for the Dutch star Nick Marsman, as he won’t be able to play with the likes of Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.
Inter Miami created a buzz this transfer window after a disappointing start to the season. The Herons languished at the bottom of the table and eventually sacked Phil Neville. They brought in Tata Martino to replace the outgoing English manager. Moreover, David Beckham brought in a few youngsters to the roster. However, his recent decision regarding the $661,000 valued Dutchman raised many eyebrows.

In a significant update, Vice City terminated the contract with Marsman. The 32-year-old goalie immediately leaves the club as a free agent and is available on the market. MLS allows the clubs to tear up one contract during the season. And the club from Florida decided to take advantage of that right. By this, Inter Miami makes space on the wage bill.
Marsman joined Herons in 2021 and played 30 games for the club. The 32-year-old appeared in only one game this calendar year. It will be interesting to see where the former FC Twente goalie ends up. Amid Lionel Messi’s transfer saga, Marsman sent shockwaves recently. He made bold claims regarding the club’s preparedness to welcome the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Marsman said, “I personally think that this club is not ready for Messi’s arrival. We have a temporary stadium. People can just walk on the pitch. There are no gates. We also leave for the stadium without security. I think they aren’t ready. But I hope he comes.” Meanwhile, the signing came to fruition as the former PSG superstar snubbed FC Barcelona and Al Hilal to join Vice City.

Messi was obviously the headline signing for the Herons. However, they made significant additions to the roster apart from Messi. David Beckham reunited Messi with Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. Importantly, all the signings were on the free transfer. However, these players will significantly impact the wage bill.
Inter Miami also added 20-year-old Argentine Facundo Farias from CA Colon. To strengthen the future, Beckham brought two more youngsters. Tomas Aviles (Center Back, 19) and Diego Gomez (Central Midfielder, 20) also joined the club on a permanent transfer. Whether these signings help Inter Miami to reach playoffs this season remains to be seen.
