Kylian Mbappe is out of contract next season. And so, there seems to be an inevitability regarding his transfer to Real Madrid. Media reports and speculation regarding the French forward and Madrid are at an all-time high. So much so that the Spanish club had to put out a statement regarding their interest in Mbappe.

Back in 2022, Madrid offered Mbappe a contract rarely seen in Europe. He could have pocketed a net salary in excess of $26 million. This would have made him Real Madrid’s highest-paid player. He was also offered a signing bonus of $140 million with total control over image and visual rights. However, PSG offered him a more lucrative deal. And Mbappe stayed in France.

Real Madrid’s admiration for Mbappe is well-known. Their latest statement regarding the Parisian forward doesn’t make plenty of sense at first. The statement reads, “In response to the information published recently by different media outlets, speculating about alleged negotiations between player Kylian Mbappé and our club, Real Madrid C.F. wants to state that these reports are completely false, and no such negotiations have taken place with a player who belongs to PSG”.

A tweet on X (Info Source: Le Parisien) seems to have deciphered the reason for this abrupt statement. It states, “The purpose of Real Madrid’s statement on Mbappé is to avoid any prosecution by PSG. If the negotiations prove valid while Kylian Mbappé is still a player of PSG, it is possible that the French club will take legal action.”

All things considered, this seems a smart approach by the Spanish giants. Backhand negotiations can have disastrous results. Back in 2017, Liverpool were accused of illegal negotiations by Southampton. The player involved was Virgil Van Dijk. Liverpool eventually had to wait a further 6 months and pay a significantly higher fee. By the looks of it, Madrid won’t be going down this route. They have done their share of waiting already.

Will PSG once again convince the French forward to stay at PSG?

It looks like Mbappe is finally set to move on from the French Ligue. However, this was exactly what was said in 2022. In terms of finances, PSG is a better choice compared to Spain. Coach Luis Enrique also seems to have a long-term vision for the club.

However, a generational player like Mbappe needs a club and league of such stature. His chances of winning coveted prizes like the Ballon d’Or would also benefit from playing in a more competitive league. There is no team with more prestige than Los Blancos.  Mbappe is about to turn 25. This decision will probably be one of the most significant in his career.
