Managing top-level soccer or any sport, as a matter of fact, has become a challenge in terms of injuries. But FC Barcelona has found a respite in the midst of a crisis. Even though its midfielder, Gavi, is injured, the Blaugrana will take the consolation that is given to him.
Both money and performance are the needs of the hour for the club. The terrible financial circumstances the club went into under its earlier president are forcing them to sacrifice players for money. But Gavi’s injury is disappointing yet relieving for the club.

The latest teenage sensation, Pablo Gavi, rose from the ranks of La Masia to sneak into FC Barcelona’s senior team. With highly promising on-field discipline and performances, he got a call-up to Luis Enrique’s Spain team in 2022. Since then, the star has been a regular starter for Spain. But in a recent match against Georgia, the international suffered a suspected anterior cruciate ligament injury that could keep him out for months.
FIFA will have to compensate Barça with 20,548 euros for each day that Gavi will be out for since he got injured while on international duty. Payment will begin 28 days after the player got injured and could last for a year maximum.

An ACL injury, suffered by even Neymar, is a complicated knee ligament injury that disrupts the movement of the leg. Gavi suffered this on the right knee while receiving a long ball in the game and was taken off in the 26th minute. Spain has been another dominating team in the Euro 2024 qualifiers by topping the group. But Gavi’s injury means he can potentially miss Spain’s journey at the main event in Germany next year.
Gavi has been recognized as a significant player for the club and country. Even though he scores very few goals, his midfield link-up and passing play provide vital stability to his team. The midfielder scored only two goals for the national team in the qualifying matches. But his goal against Norway was their ticket into the tournament next year. But on the other hand, Barcelona will be compensated for this loss.

Barcelona could wash off a certain amount of debt
Even though it’s a significant loss for the Blaugrana, the La Liga champions will accept the monetary compensation from FIFA similar to Al Hilal. FIFA’s club compensation policy allows clubs to claim compensation of approximately 22,500 dollars per day after 28 days of inactivity due to injury. However, the maximum FC Barcelona could earn is $82 million, as it is valid only for 365 days until the player recovers.
Barcelona’s debt is claimed to be more than $600 million. And the millions received from FIFA would quench just a fraction of the heat the club is facing. Additionally, the club could also need to fill his place with a suitable target for January. But how the club will adapt and adjust within the available resources is yet to be seen.
