Former Bayern Munich star Arturo Vidal recently made some surprising claims. The ex-Bavarian player claimed that the match officials favored Spanish giant Real Madrid during their clash against Bayern in 2017 and 2018. Vidal believes that the blatant partialism was one of the reasons behind the introduction of VAR.
“Real Madrid was favored by the referee twice in their 3-peat when they beat Bayern Munich in 2017 and 2018. Everyone saw it. I think that’s why they then introduced VAR. They couldn’t fix the games like that anymore,” the former Barca star claimed.

Vidal’s comments likely stem from his sent-off against Real Madrid in 2017. The former Bayern star made a tackle on Marco Asensio and was given the straight red. However, replays displayed Vidal had connected with the ball first and then took out Asensio in the process.
