“Saudi Pro League is better than the MLS,” remarked Cristiano Ronaldo last year without hesitation, clearly feathering his own nest. This claim was enough to ruffle a few feathers in the soccer world, as many perceived it as a sly dig at Lionel Messi, who had just moved to America at the time. Then again, CR7 didn’t hold back, as a similar development saw him once again leaving a few La Pulga fans unsettled with a unique reply to Elon Musk.
It all transpired on Monday night, following Al Nassr’s 1-3 win over Al Gharfa in the AFC Champions League group stage Matchday 5, courtesy of a brace from Ronaldo and a lone strike from youngster Angelo Gabriel. As usually he does after every game, the 39-year-old shared a few pictures of himself celebrating the emphatic win on X. Additionally, he wrote a caption saying, “Big win tonight!”
Interestingly, this tweet caught the eye of Elon Musk, who decided to celebrate the Portuguese superstar’s victory by commenting, “Congrats!” In response, instead of saying a thank you, Ronaldo surprisingly wrote back, “@elonmusk…Glad your eyes have time for good ‘soccer’ 😀💪🏼.”

While Musk has yet to reply to this response, the topic has shifted to what Ronaldo had in response to say. Notice something? Well, it won’t seem at first but looks like the Al Nassr star is on to it again. The Real Madrid and Manchester United icon might have taken a sly dig at the American for the term soccer.
But mostly, it is the ardent Lionel Messi fans who are not settling with what Ronaldo made in response to Elon Musk. Next thing you know, they have taken over the internet to express their discontent.
Lionel Messi fans slander Cristiano Ronaldo after allegedly making a ‘soccer’ joke
This response from Cristiano Ronaldo has shifted the focus to how the legendary soccer star and the owner of X exchanged a few replies, creating a fuss among some fans, especially the ardent supporters of Lionel Messi. They believe the Portuguese skipper taunted his long-term arch-rival by using the term ‘soccer.’
A safer bet would be to say that it was Ronaldo’s way to take a cheeky jibe at Elon Musk, who rarely comments or interacts with things related to the beautiful game. However, the way the Al Nassr skipper has double-quoted the term soccer makes it evident for a few that he is indeed bringing Messi into this:
“You are obsessed with Messi.”
Come to think of it, we don’t know if Elon Musk has officially been asked to weigh in on the GOAT debate, but the internet likely has at some point. While the SpaceX owner’s viewpoint has never been explicitly discussed, this fan somehow believes that Musk prefers Messi over Ronaldo:
“He knows Messi is better than you Mr influencer.”

Shots fired! To remind you, aside from taking a dig at MLS, Ronaldo had even called the Saudi League better than the French Ligue 1, also the place where he never played but his rival Messi did. Now, the former Juventus star took a dig at the place where they address the beautiful game as ‘soccer.’ However, this fan has a Uno reverse we wouldn’t have expected to see:
“Saudi league doesn’t have good ‘soccer’.”
We remember a few days ago, Ronaldo uploaded a video on his YouTube channel, where he used Messi’s name in the thumbnail. That had seen the 5x Ballon d’Or winner get slammed for getting views in the name of the World Cup winner. Now, his latest X activity makes this fan clear that Cristiano has something with Messi:
