Sunday saw the entire world celebrating Father’s Day. Wrexham community wasn’t the exception as they gathered for the Father’s Day meal at the historic Racecourse Ground. But some structural damage due to heavy rains abruptly ended the festive dinner.

Meanwhile, things escalated, and they evacuated those present on the Racecourse Ground. Wrexham AFC released a statement in the wake of the unfortunate incidents at the stadium. Let us take a closer look at all the events.

Unfortunate events cut off a festive meal at Wrexham AFC’s ground

Torrential rains hit the Wrexham region on Sunday. After a yellow weather warning on June 18, the territory saw thunderstorms resulting in flash floods. It disrupted the Father’s Day celebrations. Wrexham AFC’s Racecourse Ground was the location for the festive meal. The first sitting ended without any difficulties. However, things escalated during the second sitting of the festive meal.

The heavy rains saw structural damage to the roof of the famous 1864 suite, where they served the meals. Due to a considerable leakage in the ceiling of the Macron Stand reception area, they evacuated all the diners. The statement from the club confirmed“All diners were evacuated from the Suite on safety grounds, with the Fire & Rescue Services contacted. Everyone inside the stand at the time was successfully evacuated.”

Meanwhile, the club also released a statement for those who were part of the third sitting. “All guests who were part of the third sitting will be contacted by the club, and we share their disappointment that – after two successful sittings – circumstances beyond our control have disrupted our plans for the evening. We will assess the situation in the Macron Stand to ensure we can get everything back up and running as soon as possible,” the club statement read. 

It will be interesting to see how things pan out and when the club can repair the damages to bring everything to normal.

A Look at Racecourse Ground

It is the oldest international soccer stadium in the world. The 216-year-old has four stands: The Kop, Wrexham Lager Stand, Wrexrent Stand, and the Macron Stand. The Kop has a capacity of 5,000 and is currently undergoing restoration works. They will increase the strength to 5,500 with a hospitality lounge, office, and retail space. The job will potentially end by the end of the next season.

The Macron Stand is the newest stand, with a capacity of 3,500. It houses a restaurant named, The Changing Rooms. It also has a TV Studio and eight fully equipped private boxes. The other stands, Wrexham Lager and Wrexrent Stands have capacities of 4,200 and 2,800, respectively. The oldest international soccer stadium will be in the EFL League Two next season after the club’s epic promotion.
