Legends ought to be revered. And especially when they are leaving the sport, their exit should be felicitated in the smoothest manner possible. Alex Morgan has reached that phase. Whether it be dying-minute goals or guiding and mentoring the next generation, the USWNT striker’s presence will be missed. Morgan plays her last game against the North Carolina Courage on Sunday, September 8th. And supporters around the world will be eager to see how the San Diego Wave honors her last dance. However, in a surprising turn of events, the NCAA Football has now struck worry of playing potential spoilsport for Sunday’s event.
Sunday’s farewell game for the 2-time World Cup winner could be hampered by a bad pitch fear enthusiasts. This came to light when a reputed journalist Jenna Tonelli demanded the best surface for Morgan. Taking to her X (previously Twitter) she wrote, “THEY BETTER CLEAN UP THAT SNAPDRAGON PITCH FOR HER that’s all I’m saying!!!!!!” While a few on the platform were wondering what she was talking about, Devin Whatley from NBC 7 San Diego reminded people of the NCAA game between the San Diego Aztecs and Oregon State Beavers.

The college football game is scheduled for 1930 hrs PST on Saturday at the same Snapdragon Stadium where the NWSL game will be held. With the soccer match scheduled for 17:00 hrs PST the next day, the staff will have less than 24 hours to get the playing surface in a better condition. While the sport is played under harsh conditions on a few occasions, the magnitude of the event requires the best arrangements.
Meanwhile, the star, who had a huge impact on women’s sport in the USA, could expect a grand adieu. Alex Morgan has very few things left to win on the pitch. She’s been a World Cup winner twice, an Olympic gold medalist, an NWSL winner with the Wave, and a European treble-winner with Olympique Lyon apart from multiple individual honors including U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year twice.
