Shakira is going through a lot behind the scenes. The Waka–Waka singer has a massive tax-fraud allegation over her head. Recently, her legal team had no choice but to release a public statement addressing another brand-new tax fraud allegation. Other than the 2012-14 tax fraud case, the singer is reportedly facing a new lawsuit from 2018.
Shakira’s reputation may take a hit due to the repercussions of the two tax fraud cases. In the past, the Latin American star spoke about her first lawsuit. Interestingly, at that point, she seemed calm and confident about the entire ordeal.

Shakira was pinned with a tax fraud allegation in 2012. Reportedly, she owes the authorities about $15.9 million. If she loses the case, the singer could face up to eight years in prison. Earlier, the Colombian icon had dismissed these allegations as ‘unfair and surreal’. The court hearings for this tax fraud case are supposed to continue later in November.
A recent public statement by Shakira’s legal team has left a few jaws dropped. In fact, they have addressed the 2018 brand-new lawsuit claims against the singer. They quoted, “Shakira has not received any notification regarding the lawsuit that today the media claim has been filed for the 2018 fiscal year”, as compiled by Mundo Deportivo and translated by DeepL.
“Once again, as it has been happening during all these years, it is through the media that the singer has learned of the filing of this lawsuit. Evidencing the media and reputational pressure to which she is subjected”. The situation in the singer’s life seems pretty chaotic. Not many around her had anticipated another tax fraud lawsuit to walk in unexpectedly.
Amid all the drama and chaos, the Colombian icon continues to follow her passion for music. Back in 2022, the Waka–Waka singer once described that breakup-lawsuit phase as the ‘darkest’ one.

Just months after parting ways with Pique, the Spanish authorities accused the singer of tax fraud. The Hips Don’t Lie singer confidently revealed they had no evidence against her. That’s because, from her 2012-14 tax fraud case, she has claimed to not be living in the country. And so, she was under no obligation to pay any taxes. She called that moment of time the ‘darkest’ one.
But she revealed that her family and friends have always supported her. The Colombian icon said, “That safety net is formed by family and friends. And if you’ve done things right, you will find that helping hand”. In Shakira’s scenario, her fans are also equal to her family. Just yesterday, she poured her heart out to the fanbase after winning eight awards in Puerto Rico.
