FC Barcelona is going through a head coach conundrum. Ever since Xavi announced his departure come summer, the Catalan club has been scratching its head to find a replacement. Amid the wild chaos, Cesc Fabregas has added fuel to the fire by citing, ‘You never know,’ over the possibility of returning to Camp Nou as a coach, despite knowing that Xavi has been dealing with ‘massive’ pressure.

Being a La Masia graduate, Fabregas got to play for just 3 seasons at a senior level before joining Chelsea. While he couldn’t attain significant success with his boyhood club, he reflected on the chance to pursue glory as a head coach. In an interview on ‘Tot Costa’ of Catalunya Radio, when asked if he would manage Blaugrana, he said, “You never know. First I have to grow as a manager, take big steps. I feel very good now, because the pressure is not high.” Additionally, Fabregas also defended his ex-teammate Xavi, who is facing criticism.

There are some managers that are heavily criticized by the people, but then you see their day-to-day work, and you think: ‘this guy is great.’ People have to think about themselves”, he said. While extending his support, the veteran midfielder concluded, “I don’t know how Xavi feels at Barça. I haven’t lived what he lived, but the pressure must be massive“, as compiled by 3CAT. Some Cules fans must have already started imaging Fabregas as the head coach!

Notably, after leaving Monaco, Fabregas joined Italy’s second-division side, Como. Soon after hanging up his boots in 2023, he became an assistant coach and is currently working alongside Osian Roberts. Fabregas’ support for Xavi was immense as he even backed his pal for the road ahead in Europe!

Aside from defending Xavi, Cesc Fabregas also backed his boyhood club to outshine Napoli in the impending RO16 clash of the UEFA Champions League. While insisting that ‘Barça is a bit ahead,’ the former midfielder believes that despite the Italian opposition having the quality to play a great game, they might fail to show consistency in the second leg.

They [Napoli] have good players, of course, but Barça for me is more favorite,” he said. Undoubtedly, this is a much-needed motivation for Xavi and Co. from his old pal Cesc Fabregas. Notably, Xavi’s side is currently sitting in 3rd place in La Liga with 50 points. The defending champions are 8 points behind arch-rivals and table-toppers Real Madrid, with Girona being 6 points ahead of the Catalans.
