The West Bromwich Albion versus Wolverhampton Wanderers’ game saw an unexpected set of events during their 4th round FA Cup clash. One of West Brom’s players, Kyle Bartley, had to rush to the stands to rescue two of his children against a riot that has erupted in the Hawthorns.
The history of the rivalry between the two clubs dates back to more than a century. However, today’s events intensified the already existing bitterness between the bases, which includes geographical reasons. The Baggies do not consider the Wolves to be part of Black Country. But today’s event turned out to be vicious, which put both fans in jeopardy.

It was the 82nd minute when the fan was noticed, subsequently leading to an attack on him. But to Hartley’s concern, his two children were seated with his family near the area that was affected, which led him to bring them out. Hartley was seen carrying one child and holding another’s hands while walking away, leaving players and fans all over the world concerned.
West Brom’s fans were already agitated when Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, in the 78th minute, almost sealed their victory with the second goal. This led to the Baggies’ fans entering the pitch, further leading the referee to stop the game.

The game reportedly resumed after 35 minutes with the police, and officials were used to settling things down. The Wolves won the derby with the clubs meeting after 4 years. Post-game, West Brom’s captain, Jed Wallace, called for sense to prevail among the crowds, which caused ‘distress’ to the players. He stated, “No one wants to see that in football. They’re two huge clubs with passionate supporters. You hope it keeps a lid on it at times.” Moreover, one of the home fans claimed that they had seen nothing of this sort earlier, despite the rivalry being fierce.
