We know it’s hard to take the attention off the Paris Olympics but there’s a fiery club fixture that awaits you. The 2024/25 season’s first Manchester derby is here as both formidable English sides face each other for the FA Community Shield at the very iconic Wembley Stadium. The last time both sides contested against each other was in the FA Cup tie that saw United clinch a 2-1 win over City.
Manchester City will look to add their seventh Community Shield and third one under Pep Guardiola era. The whole summer has been busy for them as they are coming off their US pre-season friendly tour. Out of 4 matches, they endured three consecutive defeats against Celtic, AC Milan, and FC Barcelona, only winning their final one against Chelsea.
Meanwhile, the masters of this tournament, Manchester United can add their 19th Community Shield. But their pre-season tour has also been a mixed bag. Out of five matches, they won just two against Rangers and Real Beties, while losing out the rest against Rosenburg, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

Injuries
Manchester City
Unfortunately, there remains some bad news for Manchester City. The Spaniard is yet to welcome Kyle Walker, John Stones, Phil Foden, and Rodri as all four haven’t returned to training since having made appearances for their respective nations in the recent Euros. Though similar is the case for Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, Matheus Nunes, and the latest arrival Savinho, who all haven’t featured in a single friendly game, they are available at Guardiola’s disposal.
On top of that, Ederson, Erling Haaland, and Rico Lewis dealt with minor issues during their tour of the USA. However, the trio will make it for the Wembley clash.

Leny Yoro is the first name that will miss the clash as he underwent a foot injury after sustaining a knock earlier. Additionally, next in line is Rasmus Hojlund, who remains sidelined due to a hamstring blow. Meanwhile, Jonny Evans was sidelined due to illness with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, and Will Fish being ruled out during the Liverpool clash.
However, there is good news for Erik ten Hag as he welcomed Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Facundo Pellistri, and Lisandro Martinez from their international duties.
