After popping champagne following their Leagues Cup triumph, Inter Miami continued to celebrate after the U.S. Open Cup triumph. Similar to previous matches, this one was also closely contested by Lionel Messi and Co. as they reached the final of another tournament. The whole soccer fraternity reacted in their own way after seeing the result, but rivals are lashing out at Cincinnati for not ‘killing off’ the game early.
The Herons made an extraordinary comeback and even clinched a lead in extra time. But the match eventually went to penalties, which David Beckham’s soccer franchise aced inch-perfectly.

Cincinnati held the advantage for the majority of the match. The situation deteriorated for Messi’s team as they let in another goal post halftime. However, they didn’t surrender without a fight. They managed to make a comeback. Likewise, the game progressed to extra time, where Inter Miami found themselves unexpectedly in the lead. However, that didn’t please everybody.
Former USMNT player Jimmy Conrad believes Cincinnati should have ended the game quite early. After Josef Martinez scored the third for Miami, he quickly fired his Twitter and wrote, “F around, @fccincinnati, and you get found out. Should’ve killed off the game when you had the chance. However, fair play to @InterMiamiCF for punishing them for their mistakes.”

While dropping the F-bomb, he criticized the team for throwing away their lead. Conrad later appreciated Miami’s efforts for taking their chance and punishing the Garys. Although Cincinnati did manage to shut down early celebrations, by scoring an equalizer, it didn’t benefit them that much as they lost on penalties.
Indeed, it was quite a constructive criticism from Conrad for Cincinnati. Nevertheless, let’s talk about Messi’s masterclass performance, that helped Miami reach another final.

Miami reaches another final, thanks to the heroics of Lionel Messi
Once again, Messi caught everyone off guard with his much-needed tantalizing performance. Cincinnati’s 2-0 lead with goals in the 18th and 53rd minutes was shut down by La Pulga, as he gave two important assists to Leonardo Campana. Both of their efforts took the game to extra time, where they enjoyed a lead for a moment.
But unfortunately, that didn’t last long, as they conceded in the 114th minute. Ultimately, the game concluded with a penalty shootout, a challenge that the Herons conquered. Miami’s goalkeeper, Drake Callender, played a pivotal role by making a decisive save, propelling the team into yet another final. Undoubtedly, it was a highly suspenseful affair and one of another heroics from Messi.
