Amid all the frenzy around Kylian Mbappe‘s future, his Paris Saint Germain teammate Marco Asensio is also now at the center stage of transfer season talks. Barely seven months into his PSG move, Asensio is now in the Spanish club Real Sociedad‘s radar. If the rumored move ever materializes, Asensio, who was brought to set up Mbappe for goals, will take the field opposite the Frenchman within a month. Will the former Los Blancos star be back on a plane to Spain by the end of this transfer window?

Real Sociedad returned to the UEFA Champions League after a 10-year-long hiatus. They made it to the knockouts after such an exile. Drawn against PSG in the first set of knockout matches, Sociedad is seriously mulling new moves to challenge the Parisian outfit.

Real Sociedad laces up against Kylian Mbappe and Co. with a surprise tactic

According to Footmercato, Real Sociedad is looking forward to landing a potent attacking midfielder in the January window. Pablo Sarabia, Andreas Skov-Olsen, and PSG’s Marco Asensio are the club’s most likely targets. Anyhow, PSG will have a say on Asensio’s potential move, considering his three-year contract. The 27-year-old Spaniard, however, is not someone that the French giants would never let go of. Firstly, the former Real Madrid star has missed out on PSG matches for two months due to an injury. Besides, he has been playing as a substitute since he returned to the Parisian squad during their match against Newcastle.

Having played seven matches since then, Asensio had started alongside Kylian Mbappe only in one match. Therefore, chances are likely that Luis Enrique and Co. might loan him to some other club or even put him back on the market. That move could benefit PSG, as they signed him as a free agent, and he is now valued at around $19 million. However, letting him go to another club would not be without any costs. Especially when it comes to Real Sociedad on the receiving end.

Marco Asensio’s potential Sociedad switch could be detrimental to PSG

Though an injury marred Asensio’s PSG run, and is currently serving as a makeshift player, he proved impactful for the side in their most recent outing. Last night, PSG demolished Revel 0-9 in a French Cup meeting. While Kylian Mbappe scored a stunning hat-trick, it was Marco Asensio who set him up two times. In addition to two assists, the three-time UEFA Champions League winner scored a goal as well. Exactly when the 27-year-old is starting to showcase his class in Paris, it would likely be unwise and threatening to let him go elsewhere.

Besides, Asensio is accustomed to the La Liga, and could easily fit in the Sociedad roster. Moreover, Asensio’s know-how of the PSG squad will be helpful for Sociedad ahead of the RO16 ties against the Parisians. Hence, the Sociedad-based side will do everything in their power to land a star of Marco Asensio’s stature. We will have to wait and see if Luis Enrique will do everything in his power to keep the veteran or ultimately cut short his stay in the French capital.
