Real Madrid’s success can be attributed to their constant ability to re-invent themselves. The club has shown that they cater to every aspect of their squad equally. While Los Blancos has been known for its excellent attack this season, its defense has not shied away from making its worth felt. After conceding just 13 goals in La Liga this season, the club is now looking for an upgrade from an aging Daniel Carvajal to an Eredivisie-winning defender.

Madrid, on the offensive front, is in a seemingly perpetual saga to gain the services of Kylian Mbappe. But their main area of concern for this season will be the back line, after injuries to Eder Militao and David Alaba. And so, Real Madrid has decided to approach a high-quality right back.

Carlo Ancelotti has extended his stay at the Bernabeu until 2026, rejecting the Brazilian national team. According to reports, Don Carlo is interested in signing the defender, Lutsharel Geertruida, for $38 million from Feyenoord, with the club preparing for Daniel Carvajal’s replacement.

Carvajal has been on the hotline since last year. Having turned 32, and after starting irregularly last season, the player has been struck by injuries time and again. The occasional captain of Real Madrid was sidelined for three games in December due to a calf injury sustained against Granada. However, after his comeback, the defender made a huge statement, after scoring the winning goal in a controversial game against UD Almeria.

On the other hand, Lutsharel Geertruida has been a strong force in Rotterdam. The player is not only strong as a right-back but also versatile in different areas of the pitch, like central defense, and does overlap quite frequently to pitch in offensively. Geertruida has already scored five goals and provided two assists this season, impressing the club from the Spanish capital, which is desperate for defenders.

Moreover, the 23-year-old was instrumental in Feyenoord’s title win last year with 11 clean sheets, including a winning goal against Ajax. But he is not the only player to be under the watchful eye of Florentino Perez. Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong have also gained interest.

Meanwhile, Portuguese player Antonio Silva is also under consideration for the club. Madrid rejected the high price set by Benfica last year, who still consider his worth to be around $120 million. Having signed the likes of Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, and Aurelien Tchouameni in the last few seasons, it seems the rebuild for Madrid is close to complete. Be that as it may, the 14-time Champions League winners are likely looking for a new generation of players to continue this winning legacy.
