It was a defining moment for the San Diego Wave to sign USWNT ace Alex Morgan in July 2022. New to the NWSL landscape, the club had aimed to become a force within the system. Subsequently, citing Morgan as a ‘leader on and off the field,’ they kicked off their campaign under her captaincy, and she has already got them away to a terrific start. However, her heritage goes way further than in 2022 and the boundaries of California, and it appears that the Wave knows the magnitude of her impact amid her retirement. Since she will not play professional soccer again after Sunday, reports now suggest that the San Diego club has taken the initiative to go the extra mile to give her a deserving tribute.
According to NWSL, it appears that the Wave has planned a gigantic celebration to tell the icon’s story. However, this will not take place on Sunday, September 8, but is scheduled for November 3, when the club will play its last regular season match at home against Racing Lousiville. Meanwhile, many details about the program remain a mystery. But people can be assured that the Snapdragon stadium will be full of emotions as her career was nothing short of heroics on and off the field. Moreover, in under 2 years with her present club, Morgan has sculpted her estate in the club with 23 goals and 9 assists in 50 matches.

Morgan started with a Golden Boot in the club’s inaugural NWSL season, which was a matter of pride for the Wave. Despite her 16 goals, Wave lost the semifinals, but she led them to their maiden Supporters Shield last season. With 6 goals and 4 assists last year Morgan showed why she was one of their best signings. Nonetheless, this year, her performance saw a decline due to an ankle injury sustained in April. After missing a few games, she was dropped for the Olympics by Emma Hayes. In addition, Alex Morgan also revealed that she is pregnant with her second child leading to her retirement.
