One name on the lips of the USWNT fans is Croix Bethune. The talented soccer player from the Washington Spirit stole the headlines before her unfortunate season-ending injury. Yet, young and gritty in her own way, Bethune loves the new investor who arrived at the Spirit. Magic Johnson has raised the team’s spirits.
The Los Angeles Lakers basketball legend is a shrew investor similar to Shaquille O’Neal. Thus, with the NWSL attracting big-money names, Magic pulled a rabbit out of his hat. In an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, Croix Bethune mentioned the impact of a personality like Johnson coming to the league.
It obviously attracts much more eyeballs. It’s a big win for the league as Magic joins Kevin Durant, Patrick Mahomes, and other stars to invest in the NWSL. “Um, I mean, we just, Magic just joined us, and I think that’s great. Someone who’s done that within another sport, also being a man coming to us. So I feel like the more people look at women’s sports, invest, see how important we are, and how much we can make a difference. I think things can progress to elevate,” said Bethune, in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports.

The new CBA agreement for the NWSL league promises the players better salaries, maternity leaves, and other allowances. It, in turn, attracts players from the European leagues to ply their trade for the American clubs. So Bethune stated about those as well.
Croix Bethune loves Magic Johnson and other investors making NWSL great!
Bethune continued, “Yeah, I mean, my first year coming in, a lot has already changed within this year, and then talking to teammates about how things have been progressing over the years before I’ve entered the league. It’s amazing to see. I think it’s essential that people pay more attention, take more time within women’s sports to see how much we’re growing, but within what, 10, 20, 30 years, where will we be?”

These changes are naturally great for the league. Meanwhile, it’s not the first time Magic Johnson invested in a club. Through the Magic Johnson Enterprises, he has minority ownerships in the Washington Commanders (NFL), Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA), Los Angeles Angels FC (MLS), Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB), and eSports franchise Team Liquid. “I’m excited to join the Washington Spirit’s investor group at such a pivotal time in the club’s history,” said Johnson.

Therefore, it is one of the best deals in a long time. It would help the Washington Spirit to attract more funds with their stadium attendance climbing from 5000 to 14000 average in the past years. It becomes crucial for the NWSL to get some viewership and Magic Johnson and Croix Bethune too, with her charisma, can get the team rolling.
