Wrexham has just made an enormous leap jumping from non-league to EFL. Wrexham fans had to wait for 15 longs years to see their team back in the league. However, one player had already achieved the feat back in 2021. Wrexham’s former captain Shaun Pearson left Wrexham AFC in 2021 and went on to play for Grimsby.
The legendary center-back played for the Red Dragons from 2017 to 2021. He saw the transformation of the club as the new owners took over the club. However, watching the spectacular performances of the rejuvenated side, he might have opted to stay. Despite a record-breaking season, Wrexham owners didn’t forget to be involved in a tremendous moment of his career.

The 34-year-old has decided to hang up his boots as he concludes the 17th season of his career. The former Wrexham star Shaun Pearson has played 460+ matches and found the back of the net 42+ times. This announcement grabbed the attention of Ryan Reynolds and he couldn’t resist sharing it.
One of the best! ❤️❤️❤️
— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) May 7, 2023
Sharing the official tweet from Grimsby Town FC, the Deadpool star wrote, “One of the best!” Grimsby Town captioned the tweet, “Fan favorite Shaun Pearson will hang up his boots following tomorrow’s match and will take up a role in Paul Hurst’s football department. Thanks for all your efforts in the Town shirt, @shaunpearson“.
The tweet has gone viral in the community, as Pearson is among one of the most notable names in the lower tiers. Ryan Reynolds’ reply on the FC tweet is more surprising, as it was Grimsby Town FC who broke the dreams of every Wrexham fan in the 2022 National League semifinal.
Nevertheless, the owner duo of Reynolds and McElhenney will look toward the future as they attempt to complete the herculean task of recruiting Gareth Bale.

Amid the promotional ascend of the Welsh club, owners and staff are scratching their heads to prepare for an inevitable roaster shuffle. Meanwhile, Rob McElhenney appears to have his priority sorted. He has seemingly challenged himself to be able to lure Welsh soccer superstar Gareth Bale to play for the Red Dragons. It all started from a Twitter banter between the Real Madrid legend and the Wrexham owner, and this conversation reached a boiling point.
Me: “Could anything tempt you out of retirement, for example…Wrexham?”
GB: “No, I don’t think so. I was more looking for a free round of golf off Rob”
