In the recent 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Fulham, a unique feat surfaced. Mohamed Salah’s incredible 7-game Premier League goalscoring streak was brought to an end, courtesy of one man—Antonee Robinson. If that doesn’t scream world-class, then creating four chances, winning five duels, completing two tackles, and providing two assists in the match certainly do. Though Robinson consistently delivers such stellar performances, he still finds himself without the recognition of being labeled the ‘best left-back in the world.’

The confession came on the latest podcast episode of CBS Sports Golazo America’s Call It What You Want segment, co-hosted by the panel of Jimmy Conrad, Charlie Davies, and Tony Meola. Of course, his performance vs. Liverpool had to become a discussion, with questions looming about whether it makes Jedi a world-class talent. Firstly, Meola denied such a narrative stating, “I don’t know if you say he is the best left-back in the world. I don’t know how you equate that because there are so many definitions of it.”

Interestingly, fellow co-host Davies also agreed with Meola and added his perspective, stating that it’s difficult to label someone the best solely based on where they play and what they’ve won. Davies explained that, at the end of the day, the measure of greatness often comes down to trophies—whether it’s the Champions League, World Cup, Euros, or other major international tournaments.

Davies further emphasized that being on a winning team and consistently competing in or reaching finals is what generally defines a player as the best of the best. “For me, world-class is similar to if you can drop in any club in the world and play,” added the former USMNT striker.

Looks like Robinson may need to do more than just give standout performances. If he just manages to get himself into a team where he may win trophies, then there’s surely no doubt it would at least make the 27-year-old a contender for the best left-back tag. Speaking of which, another USMNT icon is the opposite of what Meola and Davies have to say!

Antonee Robinson is better than Alphonso Davies, according to the USMNT icon!

In a recent episode of ESPN FC’s Futbol Americas, Herculez Gomez lavished praise on Antonee Robinson’s remarkable progress. “It’s been quite some time since USMNT fans had been excited about their left-back,” said the pundit, emphasizing how the defensive left flank, once a major concern, is no longer an issue thanks to Robinson’s presence.

“He’s on a level that I have not seen in an American player, a defensive one, in quite some time. You’re going about two years where he’s one of the most dominant backs in his position, where his peers recognize how good he is. He’s the captain of this team and one of the clear and only dangers they have as an outlet on form,” concluded Gomez.

Gomez even compared the Fulham star to Alphonso Davies, confidently naming him the best left-back in CONCACAF. He argued that competing in one of the top leagues globally further solidifies the defender’s position as the best. Whatever the case may be, while opinion may vary accordingly, share your views on Antonee Robinson getting the world-class tag in the comments.
