There’s a reason why the current US Men’s National Team is referred to as the ‘Golden Generation.‘ Christian Pulisic at AC Milan, Gio Reyna at Dortmund, and the duo of Tim Ream and Weston McKennie at Juventus—these players are proudly flying the flag for their nation in top foreign leagues. Standing tall among these names is also Antonee Robinson, who has even been described as a more ‘dominant‘ left-back than Alphonso Davies across the entire CONCACAF region.

Throughout the years, the 27-year-old has established himself as a key player that the Stars and Stripes can always count on, with a similar story on the domestic front as well. So it’s a no-brainer to see Herculez Gomez heap praise over Robinson’s growth. “It’s been quite some time since USMNT fans had been excited about their left-back,” began the former USA forward on the latest podcast episode of ESPN FC’s Futbol Americas.

Highlighting how the left side of the defense had always been a worrisome position, Gomez insisted that the presence of Antonee made that problem long gone. Further notching up praise for the Fulham superstar, he added, “Robinson now, you’re talking about him being, for my money, the best left-back in CONCACAF.”

In fact, it didn’t take Gomez long to drag another renowned player in Robinson’s position to make a bold statement, none other than Alphonso Davies. The ESPN pundit stated that even though the Canadian has been termed “one of the best left-backs in the world off and on for the last three years,” his form often sees him down the pecking order.

Then again, Herc claimed that playing in one of the best leagues in the world makes Robinson the best as well. Highlighting how the former Wigan Athletic star has double the assist for a defender currently in the league (6 assists), challenging names like Cole Palmer (6), Mohamed Salah (9), and Bukayo Saka (10), Gomez has no doubts why big clubs are keen on signing Robinson.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Antonee Robinson truly the best left-back in CONCACAF, or does Alphonso Davies still reign?

Have an interesting take?

“He’s on a level that I have not seen in an American player, a defensive one, in quite some time. You’re going about two years where he’s one of the most dominant backs in his position, where his peers recognize how good he is. He’s the captain of this team and one of the clear and only dangers they have as an outlet on form,” concluded Gomez.

Looks like the former US international is clear of his choice. However, another USMNT icon’s perspective would surely make you see things differently.

Antonee Robinson misses out on the ex-USMNT icon’s list of best CONCACAF players!

During an episode of CBS Sports Golazo’s Call It What You Want podcast segment, panelists Charlie Davies, Tony Meola, and Jimmy Conrad debated who currently holds the title of the best player in CONCACAF. While Conrad chose Christian Pulisic over Jonathan David, Charlie passionately backed Alphonso Davies, praising the Bayern Munich left-back as superior to the Lille forward. “Alphonso Davies is the top dog. Jonathan David isn’t passing him, let’s be real,” said Charlie Davies.

In fact, Charlie took it a step further by placing Jonathan lower in the pecking order stating, “Right now, it’s between Alphonso Davies and Christian Pulisic as the best player in CONCACAF, that’s it. And just under them is Sergino Dest and Weston McKennie, and then you could add maybe Jonathan David below that.”

This clearly sees someone like Antonee Robinson miss out on Charlie Davies’ list of best CONCACAF players. Perhaps, it’s all about preference as what Herculez Gomez said is only about the left-backs debate.
