Lionel Messi may seem the tranquilest person on the field when he has the ball at his feet. He dribbles past defenders, plays clinical passes, and scores lethal goals with an eerie calmness. However, this calm and composed Messi loses his cool with his rivals when an altercation ensues on the field. And the El Clasico stage has a dime a dozen times witnessed a furious former FC Barcelona skipper draw daggers against Real Madrid stars. One such infamous scuffle broke out between Barca and Madrid players in 2019. Sergio Reguilon, who was at the center of the skirmish alongside Messi and Luis Suarez, recalled the infamous exchange.

In 2019, Real Madrid lost against Barcelona twice in the four days at home. Madrid’s second loss, however, was a close one. Sergio Reguilon notably gave his best for the Blancos before they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat. Infuriated at the loss, Reguilon drew daggers at Luis Suarez after the game. As per lip-readers who broke down a video of the infamous exchange, Reguilon told Suarez he was “ugly.” Meanwhile, Lionel Messi intervened in the fight only to be called a “flea” by Reguilon. “I was young, too emotional, my first Clásico,” Reguilon told The Times in an interview, revealing why he lost his cool four years back.

Reguilon’s ride in England has also been bumpy as Tottenham Hotspur loaned him to Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford. Reguilon joined Brentford on loan in 2024 and starts at the left-back position.
