After the 3-1 loss against Cristiano Ronald0’s Al Nassr, Steven Gerrard looked visibly frustrated. The Al Ettifaq manager was displeased with the subpar performance. But he also asked the ownership for signings in the January transfer window to improve the team. Well, it looks like the higher-ups have taken notice of his request. According to reports, the Saudi club has sealed their first signing as they are closing in on a deal for ex-Real Madrid star Alvaro Medran from fellow Saudi side Al-Taawoun.

The Spanish midfielder had only had six months left on his current contract. Hence, Al Ettifaq has managed to seal the deal for a low transfer fee. Likewise, they have also agreed on personal terms with Alvaro, who can provide a spark for the team. Medran has been in brilliant form for Al-Taawoun this season. In 15 league matches, he has provided nine assists and scored one goal for his current club. His form has helped the team as they are currently fourth in the league table behind giants Al HilalAl Nassr, and Al Ahli.

But the signing of Alvaro Medran could also mean bad news for Steven Gerrard because his first-ever signing at the club looks to depart from the Middle East soccer club.

In the last summer, Jordan Henderson surprised everyone when he agreed to sign for Al Ettifaq from Liverpool. Soon, he was also made the captain by his former Liverpool teammate. Nonetheless, it looks like things didn’t work out for the sensational midfielder. The England international wants to leave Saudi Arabia and return to the Premier League.

However, one massive problem arises if he should try to force a move. The clubs would have to pay an exorbitant transfer fee as he has a three-year contract with the club. Furthermore, the remuneration could present a challenge in contract negotiations.
