Is calling Ronaldo a 'spoiled brat' justified, or is it just bitter jealousy from an ex-star?

Cristiano Ronaldo continues to bear the brunt of his poor display in the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024. More recently, the Portuguese superstar missed a crucial penalty during the round of 16 clash against Slovenia. While the whole world was busy slamming the skipper for his miss, the renowned news organization BBC made a rather eyebrow-raising claim that didn’t settle with many, including Gabriel Agbonlahor. The former Premier League star—who once called Ronaldo a ‘spoilt brat’—has now defended CR7, questioning the BBC for passing that comment.

Even though Ronaldo’s penalty in the first half the extra time could have proved to be a match-winner, Os Navegadores eventually won the match the hard way with a 3-0 victory in penalties, where this time the 39-year-old didn’t make any mistake. Yet, while analyzing his miss against Jan Oblak, a BBC used a distasteful “Misstiano Penaldo” caption during the post-match analysis.

This became a topic of discussion on the latest episode of talkSPORT, with Agbonlahor expressing his discontent over the caption. The former Aston Villa star said, “This is disrespectful, even if he is a Slovenia player. Why would you make a comment like that?”

Agbonlahor isn’t questioning the BBC just because it relates to the Portuguese legend. His concern is more about why the comment was made in the first place, even if it had hypothetically involved a Slovenian or any other player from a different nation. Interestingly, Agbonlahor’s support for Ronaldo comes as a surprise.

Ironically, years ago, the former striker once said, “Ronaldo is a spoilt brat,” while discussing his poor form at Manchester United during his second spell. Perhaps his perception might have changed, yet that doesn’t change the fact that Ronaldo is in hot water for his poor form.
