A devastating earthquake hit Turkey on February 6, killing over 45000, with thousands still under the rubble. Rescue operations are going, but the death toll is increasing every day. Meanwhile, Sky Sports reports that former Chelsea player Christian Atsu has tragically died under the rubble.

The reports first claimed they rescued the soccer star, who had minor injuries. However, the family and agent of the player confirmed the news was wrong and that the player was still missing. Now the recent reports from Sky Sports end every speculation.

Soccer star found dead under the rubble

Former Newcastle United forward went missing after the earthquake hit Turkey. He was currently playing for the Turkish club Hatayspor and scored a crucial goal for the club hours before the devastating earthquake hit the country. He was residing in Antakya city. The tremors affected the city, destroying many buildings massively. 

Meanwhile, after 12 days player’s agent and manager confirmed the tragic death of the soccer player. Rescuers found the body of a 31-year-old this Saturday morning. His agent confirmed the news by giving the statement.

Nana Sechere, Atsu’s agent, said, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce to all well-wishers that, sadly, Christian Atsu’s body was recovered this morning. My deepest condolences go to his family and loved ones. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support. I ask that whilst we make the necessary arrangements, that everyone would please respect the privacy of the family during this very difficult time.”

His club previously announced the rescuers found the player, and they hospitalized him for further treatment. His agent also confirmed the same, but didn’t hear from the player. Later, on February 9, the club announced the news was false, and the player was still missing. Atsu signed for the Turkish club a few months back, in September 2022.
